Large Marquetry Art

Create your commission piece today

Dozens of different natural hardwoods cut precisely to fit into these original designs by Jefferson Adshead.

Marquetry is a meticulous craft that transforms wood into intricate visual narratives. Each piece begins either of two ways:
1. 'I have an idea for a piece, draw it out, figure out the number of wood species I need, then find some cool grain patterns' or
2.  'a piece of wood with a twisted, magical grain pattern will show you the design'.

The thin slices of hardwood, or veneers, are then cut; Jefferson was raised on a scroll saw - got his first one in 1981 and, in 2024, added a small laser to the arsenal. Once cut, the pieces are arranged and glued onto a substrate. After careful sanding, a few coats of clear oil finish are applied.

An original poem by Joy Anne Hodge and Certificate of Authenticity is included in each
